The Sydney Coastal Eco-Village group has announced that it has bought the former agricultural research station at Narara, near Gosford NSW.

The property has been purchased in the name of the Narara Ecovillage Co-op Ltd, with contracts exchanged on September 26.

The group plans to undertake a "community title" subdivision of the property.

"You will own your home in the usual way and own a share in the community land and buildings," said Lyndall Parris, announcing the group's successful tender bid.

"We plan to develop the property in three stages, with Stage One being called the 'First 40' and made up of single blocks for homes (with/without a granny flat) and duplexes.

"Already we have 25 co-op memberships with an intention to buy a block of land in the ecovillage.

"These memberships represent around 50 adults and children and these wonderful people made it happen.

"If this is the response before signing the contract, just imagine what's next!"

Ms Parris said: "Community members who possess the right qualifications, skills, licenses and experience will be given preference for the many jobs required to complete this development.

"We are keen to keep our money flowing within the village and then locally and provide work for our residents and neighbours to minimise travel and commuting."
