The NSW Office of Fair Trading is currently reviewing the strata and community title laws.

A discussion paper has been released and is available from the Review of strata and community scheme laws page of the Fair Trading website.

It examines a wide range of matters relating to strata governance, financial management, building management and handling of disputes.

The reforms are intended to reduce unnecessary red tape and to produce more modern, effective and friendly laws that enable easy community living and shared arrangements.

Some of the key reform issues include: parking arrangements, keeping of pets, smoking on the premises, owner renovations, overcrowding and short-term rentals, urban renewal, building defects and dispute resolution.

The review page on the Fair Trading website provides the opportunity to have your say by completing a quick online survey or for details about how to lodge a formal written submission.

The closing date for providing feedback and lodging written submissions is 15 November 2012.
